It is the successor station to Wilhelmshaven (WLH) Observatory, which was in operation from 1874 to 1911 and during the Second International Polar Year from 1931 to 1932. WLH was located 70 km SW to Wingst (36.48 deg, 8.15 deg E). REFERENCE : Full details are given in the yearbook published by GFZ "Yearbook Magnetic Results 2007 Adolf Schmidt Geomagnetic Observatory Niemegk, Geomagnetic Observatory Wingst", by Hans-Joachim Linthe.
